How to Convert WebM to FLV Online
WEBM to FLV Converter
This tool accepts WebM files, the open container made for the web, carrying VP8 or VP9 with Opus or Vorbis. FLV is the container of the Flash era. Every browser dropped Flash in 2020, so there is almost nowhere left that plays an FLV file directly. Choose it only when one specific old system demands exactly this format. These two containers hold two different families of codecs, so the streams cannot be copied. All the video and audio has to be decoded and then encoded again with the codec of the target format — and that step adds a layer of loss.
How to convert WebM to FLV
- Select or drag WebM files into the upload area.
- Confirm that the requested output format is FLV.
- Start the conversion and review the status of each file.
- Download each result once processing has finished.
Convert several files in one batch
The interface currently accepts up to 10 files per batch. Files are processed one after another; duplicates, mislabeled files and damaged files may be skipped or reported as errors.
File size after conversion
The size is decided by the output settings and not by the size of the source. The result can come out smaller or larger than the source while still being lower in quality. FLV holds the same codec pair as MP4, so the size lands close to it; the difference is only in the container bookkeeping.
Check the result
Watch a fast-moving passage and a dark passage — compression marks show up there first — then check that sound stays in step with picture right to the end. If the source uses VP9 with a transparency channel, that transparency is lost: none of the target formats here can record it. Check the areas that were meant to be transparent in the result.
Limits worth knowing
This tool changes the file format. It does not guarantee that every piece of metadata, every format-specific property or every embedded object survives the conversion. Keep the source file and test the result in the application where you plan to use it.
Frequently asked questions
Is FLV still worth using
Only when you have no choice. Flash ended in 2020; if the file still has to be usable later, MP4 is far safer.
Will a browser play FLV
No. No current browser plays FLV directly; you need a player installed on the machine.
Why does converting from WebM take so long
Because none of the target formats here can hold VP8 or VP9, so the whole file always has to be decoded and encoded again.
Why does this conversion take so long
Because every frame has to be decoded and encoded again. The time is proportional to the length of the footage, not to the size of the file.
Is there a way to convert without losing quality
Not between these two families of codecs. Avoiding loss means choosing a target format that belongs to the same codec family as the source.
Is my original file replaced?
No. The file on your device is left untouched.
