SHA512 Hash is a tool that allow you to generate SHA512 hashes from string. SHA-512 (512 bit) is part of SHA-2 set of cryptographic hash functions, designed by the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) and published in 2001 by the NIST as a U.S. Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS). This tool can be used on any device, including Android, Windows, Linux, and iOS through allinone.tools.

Generating a SHA512 hash

This tool computes the SHA512 hash of whatever you type or paste. A hash is a fixed-length string (128 characters) derived from the content, and it changes completely if the input changes even by one character.

SHA512 also belongs to the SHA-2 family and produces a longer value than SHA256. On 64-bit systems it often computes faster despite that.

How to use it

Paste your text into the input field. The SHA512 value is computed and can then be copied.

Watch out for stray spaces or a trailing newline: they count as part of the input and will produce a different value.

What hashes are used for

For proving that large files and archives are unchanged.

In environments with specific requirements on hash length, SHA512 is the mandated choice.

What hashes do not do

The longer value brings no practical security advantage over SHA256 for everyday use.

As with all fast hash algorithms: it is not suitable for passwords.

Frequently asked questions

Can the original text be recovered from a SHA512 value?

No. Hashing is one-way: it derives a value from the input, not the other way round. Short or very common inputs can still be guessed by trial and error, however.

Why does the same input always give the same value?

That is intentional. Identical input always yields an identical hash, and that property is exactly what makes hashes useful for comparing two pieces of content.

Does my input leave the device?

Processing runs in the browser. Even so, avoid pasting confidential material if you would rather it were not processed at all.
