Unlock PDF Online

Removing a PDF password

This tool removes the password protection from a PDF so it opens without a prompt afterwards.

You need to know the password. A document whose password is unknown cannot be opened with this tool.

How to use it

Upload the protected file, enter the password and confirm. You then get a version without protection.

Verify the result by opening it once — no password prompt should appear.

When this makes sense

For your own documents that you open regularly, or before processing a document further: many tools cannot read protected files.

Bear in mind that the unlocked version can be opened by anyone who receives it, so store it accordingly.

Frequently asked questions

Does this work without knowing the password?

No. The tool does not bypass protection; it only removes it when the correct password is supplied.

Is my original PDF modified?

No. A new file is produced and the original stays as it is until you choose to replace it yourself.

Are content and layout preserved?

Yes. Only the protection is removed; pages, text and images are unchanged.
